Friends of Wollescote Park have successfully secured funding from the Innovation Fund to build the first sensory garden within a public park in Dudley. The Sensory Garden will be built, with an incorporated Petanque Court (Boules) & pop-up cafe, in an over-grown space within the walled area of Lye & Wollescote Park.
The aim of the garden is that it will become an environment to offer a range of low impact activities that will include; boules, gardening with raised beds (bordering to wheelchair height) and social seating. The space will transform into a welcoming and tranquil area that will have local and borough wide appeal. The space will also be used to offer free active sessions. The holistic benefits of getting outside and enjoying outdoor activities will help residents to reduce their blood pressure, get to their ideal body weight and reduce their risk of diabetes. The garden will be available to everyone and aims to create a space that will have intergenerational and multi-cultural appeal.
