The Black Country Wellbeing Centre has gone from strength to strength since it opened its doors in January 2019. Based at the once derelict building in Vale Street, Upper Gornal the Centre is turning into a thriving community asset which welcomes more than 150 young people and adults every week for boxing, football and fitness classes.
The Centre are keen to cater for more people’s needs and following positive responses to recent Centre activities for the over 50’s groups within the area, the Centre are now planning to use the grant secured from the Innovation Fund to use their new community café to deliver and host more activities for the over 50’s groups. Activities such as ways of preventing falls by improving core strength will be held along with more social events including the hugely successful free fish and chip Friday event which members loved and was a great way of bringing the community together. The activities planned will help encourage the socially isolated and vulnerable members of society to become more involved and give them a sense of purpose in the community as a whole.
